Ten of thousands of German people gathered to protest against coronavirus restrictions claiming it is violation of our fundamental human rights to wear masks and to restrict ourselves to home. Protestors have widely violated social distancing and mask wearing measures. Police tried to disperse the protestors over not following the coronavirus hygiene restrictions. Germany is one of the European countries which is badly affected by the pandemic.
According to officials, up to 20,000 people took part in protests against the government’s coronavirus measures at different locations across Berlin on Saturday, merging for a joint rally later in the day. Organizers said up to 1.3 million people took part, a number that police denied.
Protestors held up posters featuring such slogans as "Corona, false alarm" and "We are being forced to wear a muzzle". One protestor said: "Our demand is to go back to democracy. Away with these laws that have been imposed on us, away with the masks that make us slaves".
Police ordered demonstrators to scatter at the end of the afternoon. They said they had launched legal action against organizers for not respecting coronavirus hygiene rules. Social distancing rules and hygiene requirements apply throughout the country, and people must wear face-coverings in shops and on public transport. Compulsory testing has been introduced for travelers returning from high-risk areas.
Germany has had more than 210,000 cases of coronavirus and more than 9,000 related deaths since the pandemic began.
