Mrs. Sri Lanka Was Crowned And Withdrawn; Video of the Controversy Goes Viral

Colombo:Mrs. Sri Lanka 2021 winner Pushpika de Silva was crowned, but shortly afterwards, the former Queen Hassan knocked the winner out of the contest after being divorced and crowned the runner-up.

According to the International News Agency, the winner of "Mrs. Sri Lanka", the biggest beauty pageant for married women in Colombo, was declared the winner and was crowned on stage. The scenes were shown live on state television.

The show has seemed a bit unfocused in recent episodes, with the 2019 winner, Caroline Jury, accusing Pushpika de Silva of being divorced, removing the crown and placing it on the run-up head, reminding management that competition is a rule of thumb. Married women can participate, not divorced.

Pushpika de Silva angrily walked off the stage after being crowned. He also suffered head injuries while taking off the crown. In her post on Facebook, Pushpika explained that her husband was not divorced, only divorced.

"It's true I live separately but we are not divorced yet," Pushpika said. Divorce and separation are two separate issues.

The organizers of the beauty pageant investigated Pushpika's explanation and found Mrs. de Silva to be truthful, after which they not only apologized but also returned the crown to Pushpika. Mrs. Sri Lanka is one of the largest competitions in the country in which the wife of the Prime Minister of the country also participated.
